Spoilers, obviously, for Avengers: Endgame, so if you haven’t seen it, you should definitely click away.
First, here’s some of that sweet, sweet spoiler space.
Wheeee!
Doesn’t it feel good to be spoiler-free?
The sheer breadth of timey-wimey stuff in Avengers: Endgame meant that a good deal of story resolution had to take place after the credits and be left to the audience’s imagination. Thankfully, the Russo bros have very graciously made it so we have to imagine one scene less. On Wednesday, they dropped by r/MarvelStudios for an AMA, and whilst conversing with the fans they revealed their vision for how Captain America’s reunion with Red Skull might go when he’s returning the Soul Stone.
“It was probably more awkward than you imagine it was,” wrote Anthony Russo. “Red Skull felt slated [sic] because Cap didn’t recognize him.”
As ComicBook pointed out, this bit has a meta layer to it since the role of Red Skull changed actors between Captain America: The First Avenger and Avengers: Infinity War. (In Captain America, Red Skull was played by Hugo Weaving, but in Infinity War and Endgame, it was Ross Marquand.)
